NYC Doula Institute The 3-Day Doula Intensive
Are you ready!
What You’ll Learn
The NYC Doula Institute 3-Day Intensive is an immersive training built around real birth work in New York City.
Over three days, we’ll share what we know about birth, families, hospitals, care teams, and what it actually means to become a Birth Doula
You’ll learn about pregnancy and the changing body, early and active labor, epidurals, inductions, cesarean birth, pushing, postpartum, newborns, feeding, partners and families.
How to sit with someone when things are hard. How to walk into a birth room and understand the space. How to support a family without making their birth about you. How to work alongside nurses, midwives, OBs, and hospital care teams. How to listen. How to use your hands. How to know when to speak and when your presence is enough.
Who’s Teaching
Founded by Kerri Evers, a birth doula with more than 20 years of experience in New York City hospitals, the NYC Doula Institute was built from decades of real work inside NYC birth spaces. Kerri helped establish one of New York City’s first hospital-based doula programs and has spent her career building relationships with OBs, midwives, nurses, and hospital care teams.
The 3-Day Intensive is co-taught by Kerri and a Certified Nurse-Midwife, bringing together the doula perspective and the clinical context surrounding pregnancy and birth.
Caring for a City Like Ours
Because this is New York City, we’re going to teach you how to care for the people who make this city what it is.
Our city is brilliantly diverse. Our clients come to birth with their own cultures, traditions, faiths, belief systems, families, and stories. It’s our job to learn. To listen. To honor what matters to them, and when welcomed, to help make space for it within their birth experience.
You’ll learn to approach every family with curiosity, respect, and humility to understand that the way you see birth isn’t the way everyone sees birth, and it shouldn’t be.
Every Kind of Birth
This training isn’t built around one kind of birth. We’ll talk physiologic and medical birth, unmedicated labor and epidurals, spontaneous labor and induction, vaginal birth and cesarean birth-because doulas support birth in all the ways it happens.
You’ll learn how NYC hospitals work, how care teams move, and where the doula fits within that space. You’ll learn professional standards, boundaries, communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the responsibility that comes with being invited into one of the biggest moments of someone’s life.
The Business of Birth Work
And we’re going to talk about the part of doula work that most trainings barely touch: the business. The interviews. The emails, calls, and texts. The prenatal relationship. The birth bag. The backup doula. The on-call life, the missed dinners, the middle-of-the-night phone calls. Building relationships with providers. Building a sustainable practice. Caring for yourself while caring deeply for other people. And how to build a career in birth work that you can actually stay in.
This work will change you. Birth will teach you about bodies, babies, families, relationships, fear, strength, surrender, and people. We’ve spent decades learning from birth. Now we’re ready to share what we know with you.
Three days. Real birth education. Real doula work. Real NYC experience.
Come learn with us.
